Eric Halperin

Eric Halperin is a co-founding partner at the civil rights and consumer protection law firm of Halperin Petersen & Mikkilineni. From October 2021 to February 2025, Eric served as the Enforcement Director at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, where he led the 250-person Enforcement Division. Under his leadership, the Division secured orders for $9.5 billion in consumer relief and penalties against companies for violating consumer protection laws. From 2010 to 2014, Eric served in leadership roles in the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department, first as Special Counsel for Fair Lending and later as Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General overseeing the Division’s fair housing, fair lending, and employment enforcement programs. During his time at DOJ, the Department secured the largest residential fair lending settlements in history and the Department’s first-ever settlements for illegal foreclosures against members of the military. From 1998 to 2004, he was a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division. In addition to his government service, Eric held leadership roles in the nonprofit sector, including as the director of the Center for Responsible Lending’s Litigation Program and the leader of its Washington office, as a senior advisor to Open Society Foundations’ U.S. Program, and as the CEO of Civil Rights Corps. Eric received his J.D. from Harvard Law School and his B.A. from Wesleyan University.
