HUD offering TA and trainings on Small Area FMRs: HUD appears to be taking positive steps to comply with the recent court order reversing its unlawful suspension of the Small Area Fair Market Rent rule. HUD is offering four regional trainings, a detailed guidebook, and individual technical assistance to PHAs where needed. You can find HUD’s just released guidance documents and webcast here. We are happy to see this progress, but we are continuing to monitor implementation as PHAs begin to apply the new FMRs, to ensure that voucher families are fully informed and able to take advantage of their new opportunities.

Film showing in Hattiesburg, MS: We invite you to attend “It’s Time to Listen,” a PRRAC documentary short premiering at the University of Southern Mississippi on April 7, 2018. “It’s Time to Listen” traces the history of school segregation and resegregation in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Immediately following the film premiere, there will be a panel discussion on the current state of school segregation and the role we can all play to achieve the vision of Brown v. Board of Education. Fair Housing Intersections: We are looking forward to our reception and panel discussion next Thursday, March 22, exploring activism, progressive policymaking, and the intersection of fair housing with other areas of civil rights. Speakers include Anthony Foxx (former U.S. Secretary of Transportation); John King (president and CEO of Education Trust and former U.S. Secretary of Education); Angelica Infante-Green (Deputy Commissioner, NY State Department of Education) (invited); Vernice Miller-Travis (environmental justice leader); Demetria McCain (President, Inclusive Communities Project, Dallas);and moderator Dennis Parker (Director of ACLU’s Racial Justice Program).
